Maintenance to fix harddrive failures.

We’re in the process of taking the server down and running fsck to check all of the harddrives. Then if we find any errors we will proceed with replacing the HDD.

Currently we’re considering purchasing a small 32GB SSD for our database. A SSD has superior performance over normal harddrives because it has no moving parts and has faster (0.1ms) access times (compared to 5ms access times). This should increase the performance of our I/O operations. However, this is still a dream as we must also get the funds to fund it first.

Downtime due to HDD failure.

We’re currently down because of the same problem that plagued us last time, just days ago. We’re in the process of getting the DC to replace our harddrives with a complete reinstall. The reinstall is should benefit us as we will be using more updated software.

We’ve already restored a back of the database from yesterday and we’re in the process of bringing the site back on one harddrive. We believe the hdd that the database is on is not faulty. However this will result in lag on the server as one hdd performance cannot stand up to the load. We will be looking at replication or splitting up the large db into two to a second server shortly.

Userprofile now shows staff rank to stop impersonators

Incidents were reported involving impersonator(s) who sign up with names resembling our staff. A few members have been convinced to surrender their password and sometimes threatened by these impersonators. Additionally, some members could not easily identify staff who used custom ranks.

To make things easier, we have added a feature to show member ranks of each member in the profile link. Members are requested to click on the profile button when they receive P.M’s and look for Moderator or Administrator ranks to quickly verify the identity of the member who messaged them.

If you receive threatening messages OR, if you have receive a message from a name which resembles one of our staff but does not carry the staff rank, please report the member to a forum staff member by navigating to this link.

Reduced character limit for search

Warez-BB search engine will now yield results for search terms which contain two or more chacraters. The character limit has been reduced to two characters from the previous character limit of three characters. This should dispel search woes and enable users to lookup for shares with short names.

Note that the following list of words are part of normal conversation and are not indexed by our search engine.
